Three Peaks Challenge

Next month, the team are taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the UK’s three highest montains – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – in just 24 hours. 

The 12-strong team are now busy training for this feat of endurance, which will also raise money for the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research.

Bringing the team together

Organiser PC Liz Taylor said she thought it would be difficult to find volunteers for the challenge, but she has been bowled over by the response.

She said: “It’s been amazing for our shift, and has brought people together who wouldn’t usually socialise outside of work. It had a massive positive impact on the general fitness of the shift as everyone is motivated to get into shape, and in turn this has greatly improved the wellbeing of the team.

“We’ve been trying to get out as much as possible on training hikes in and around Hampshire, trying to find the biggest hills on the Southdowns to climb.

“To add to the challenge further, we thought it would make the event much more fulfilling if we were to raise money for some charities that are close to our hearts.

“Though the list was initially very long we managed to select just three charities, one of which was COPS, along with the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research.

An invaluable lifeline

“We wanted to raise money for COPS as we all believe passionately that the support given to the families of police officers who have lost their lives is an invaluable lifeline for those affected. Especially in today’s climate, the risk to those who are on the front line of policing is high, a risk we all take daily, so to support a charity who will support those we leave behind will be a comfort to us all.”
