Peer support
COPS is a peer support charity. We provide peer support for police families by arranging local, national and on-line events that enable survivors to build friendships and bonds that support them through the good times and the bad.
It’s amazing how many people will stand by you when you’re having a bad day.
COPS connects bereaved families with others who truly understand, by virtue of having been in the same situation themselves.
Peer events: Bringing survivors together
We run peer support weekends for police families throughout the year. Some are aimed at bringing together survivors with a specific relationship to the officer, for example a spouse or partner, while others are based on a particular theme or activity.
During 2020 our physical peer events had to be cancelled, however survivors connected for a Virtual Survivor Weekend with a series of Zoom calls and a virtual remembrance wall featuring their fallen officers.

Survivor Weekend
What happens at Survivor Weekend?
On the first day, the focus is very much on bringing survivors together so they can chat to each other, share experiences and memories and forge new friendships.
We arrange activities such as craft and relaxation sessions and theme park trips for the younger survivors.
On the second day, COPS hosts a Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire to honour and remember police officers and staff who have lost their lives on duty.
This public event brings together survivors and the wider police family, and provides a valuable opportunity for people to reflect and remember their loved ones, friends and colleagues.
The service is attended by hundreds of survivors and force representatives from across the UK. For more information about attending the Service of Remembrance please click here.
Relationship and theme weekends
Children’s trip – Disneyland Paris
A special trip for the children of police officers and staff who lost their lives on duty. A chance to make new friends and have fun together.
BPSO weekend
A special 30th anniversary performance of the British Police Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, with a pre-concert dinner for survivors.
Adult children weekend
A peer support weekend in the Lake District for the adult children of police officers who lost their lives on duty.
Siblings weekend
A peer support weekend in Oxford, offering an opportunity for the brothers and sisters of police officers who have lost their lives on duty to get together.
Parents’ weekend
The parents of police officers who have lost their lives on duty are invited to meet fellow survivors on this laid-back peer support weekend in rural Cheshire.
Steam train theme weekend
Open to all survivors, this peer support weekend in Shropshire includes a trip on an historic steam train and a delicious afternoon tea.
Walking weekend
A walking weekend in Durham offering opportunities for survivors to meet other survivors, make new friends and build a support network.
Spouses and partners weekend
The spouses and partners of police officers who lost their lives on duty are invited to London for a weekend of friendship and support.
