A retired police officer has completed an ultra marathon raising money for COPS.
Philip Richards took part in the 55km Dunoon Ultra Marathon earlier this month.
The 53-year-old was supposed to be running the Manchester Marathon in April 2020 but the pandemic prevented that.
This was his first attempt at an ultra marathon.
“I was relieved when I finished,” he admitted.
“I was feeling fine as I made sure I did a lot of training, but I think I was running in heavy rain for about five hours!
“I was elated to get to the end as I’ve never ran that distance before, but also happy as running in the rain, in Scotland, is not fun.”
The retired police officer, also ex HM forces, said he has always enjoyed running and now wants to do more marathons and ultra marathons.
Philip said: “I’ve always wanted to do a marathon but never really had the time. It’s just one of those things I thought I could do – I’m quite a competitive person and like the idea of challenging myself.”
He said he chose to fundraise for COPS as it was a charity close to his heart.
“I think COPS is a fantastic charity,” he said. “A really good cause and I just wanted to give a little something back.”
Philip raised more than £1,600 which will be split between COPS, and Erskine which support armed forces veterans in Scotland.
