Andy Jamieson (right) is a Special Sergeant with Essex Police and recently completed the Virtual London Marathon, raising more than £400 for COPS in the process. He explains why he wanted to take part…
“I ran the London Marathon in 2012 and have wanted to do it again ever since. I’ve applied every year but was unsuccessful until this year. Due to the pandemic, I have deferred my place until 2021 where I hopefully will be able to run in a more traditional London Marathon.
“However, I was given the option of running in the virtual race this year and thought it would be a good opportunity to raise some vital funds for COPS. I think they do an amazing job providing ongoing support to the families of those fallen officers.
“Any marathon is hard but to do it without the crowds cheering me on and in the pouring rain from start to finish made it especially difficult. I suffered from cramp for much of the second half but my determination saw me through.”
