Two founders of the Blue Light Cycling Club will be taking on a huge challenge to raise money for charity.
Neil Turner and Dave Birch from the club will cycle up and down Mont Ventoux in France six times to raise money for several charities, including COPS.
The iconic mountain is known as a classic Tour de France route and is often called the “Beast of Provence”.
Neil said: “It’s fair to say that this will be a huge challenge for both of us. But we feel passionately about helping good causes and wanted to do an event that was worthy of people’s support and amazing donations.”
In total the men will be cycling approximately 165 miles.
And to complete the challenge, they only have a 24-hour window.
“If we succeed, we will join a group of around 400 people who have undertaken and completed this challenge,” said Neil.
“I’ve done it on Swift, which was eight hours, but the real thing won’t be anything like that and probably double the time.
“We’re expecting it be horrific! It can be incredibly dangerous, in the past people have died doing it. The decent especially can be very dangerous and getting down safely is going to be a priority.
“We will have a support team with us, but we are expecting it will be incredibly difficult.”
He added: “We’re doing this to support some wonderful charities, one of which is COPS. I didn’t know about COPS until a few years ago but the work the charity does is amazing, and it deserves as much love and support as it can get.”
The challenge is on 2 July.
