Fundraiser battles on to complete Paris Marathon

Apr 5, 2022

A massive well done to COPS fundraiser Julia Berry who has taken on one of the world’s best marathons – the Paris Marathon.

Julia, a detention officer with the Metropolitan Police, recently took part in the marathon, along with special friend PC Eddie Walker, raising money for the charity.

It was a race through the city, passing many iconic sights such as Avenue des Champs-Elysees, and the Louvre.

Julia, no stranger to marathons said she was looking for something different, that would challenge her.

“I loved it,” he said. “I would definitely do it again and I am planning to next year, subject to all the covid regulations staying the same. I’m also thinking possibly Rome/Valencia or Berlin marathons, but I haven’t decided yet.”

Speaking previously Julia admitted she thought the marathon would push her out of her comfort zone and would be a real challenge.

“I nearly got a personal best but had an unexpected Ménière’s attack (a disorder of the inner ear that can lead to dizzy spells) due to flashing lights and intense loud vibrating music which put 10 to 15 minutes on my time, so I definitely plan to go again.”

Asked why she was raising money for COPS Julia said it is a charity extremely close to her heart.

“Having lost our much-loved Sgt Matt Ratana in September 2020, it really brings home how dangerous this job can be, even in custody,” she said.
