A woman has completed the Yorkshire three peaks challenge – in full public order kit.
As if scaling the peaks; Whernside, Ingleborough, and Pen y Ghent, wasn’t enough, Emma Ironmonger completed the challenge in flameproof overalls and NATO helmet.
She said she wanted to challenge herself as well as raise money for COPS.
Emma said: “The kit was very bulky, heavy, and uncomfortable. But the main problem was it’s not very breathable. There is no air that can get in.
“I’ve done the Yorkshire three peaks before, so I sort of knew the route. I thought this time I’ll make it a bit more difficult for myself.
“And wearing the kit made it very difficult.”
Serving police officer Emma, who was originally due to take part in a different fundraising challenge postponed due to COVID, took 10 hours and 50 minutes to cover the peaks, which is about 25 miles.
She said: “I gave myself a time of 10 hours to do it and as soon as I started, I thought this is not going to happen! It was incredibly tough.
“I’m really pleased with my time tough. I was even more pleased to get the kit off at the end and let the cool air in – it was a wonderful moment.”
Emma added: “I did take my helmet off for a short time while I was going along but it was so bulky and hard to carry that I just stuck it back on my head.
“I had a few strange stares from people I met but as soon as I told them it was for charity they understood.
“A friend has raised money for COPS and the way he speaks about the charity inspired me to do the same. It’s nice to know that if the worst did happen there is a charity out there to look after my family.”
Emma has so far raised more than £400 for COPS.
