Survivor hits the highest score ever reached by a guest in the rifle shooting activity at a recent survivor parent weekend.
Mark Hamblett, whose step son, PC Ryan Hunt, died in 2006, was crowned overall winner at the weekend’s parents peer support event that was held at the luxury Warner Hotel, Homle Lacy.
Roy Terry, father of PC Ian Terry, who died in 2008, said,
“Mark Hamblett was the overall winner and his overall score for the rifle shooting was the highest that instructor Will had seen by any guest! Thank you again for a really enjoyable weekend.”
Roy went on to say
“It’s always nice to get together with other survivors when we can chat about our experiences with those who really understand, particularly at the parents weekend where we all know what it’s like to lose a child.
The Warner’s hotel weekend was particularly enjoyable as we were able to take part in activities and spend much of our time as a group, bringing us closer together.
In a sentence, the peer support weekends provide camaraderie, understanding and a very special group of friends.”
The weekend’s events included archery, a bus trip into Hereford town and experiencing the facilities of Holme Lacy.
Feedback from the event noted that the experience created a good bonding/getting-to-know-you experience, with the LIVE evening entertainment being a particular highlight of the weekend.
Below is a snippet of feedback from the event that highlights the impact of peer support, which is at the heart of the Care of Police Survivors charity:
“It was comforting to chat with other survivor parents, who were all very welcoming and friendly. They were able to share how they felt at the time of their loss and in the subsequent years.
The support is greatly appreciated, and I am sure it will help us through the coming months and years.
It was also good to laugh and take advantage of the activities and entertainment the weekend had to offer.”
Holme Lacy is a beautiful Grade I listed mansion set in 20 gardens in the Wye Valley and one of Herefordshire’s treasures.
