We are delighted to announce the appointment of Sir John Robins QPM DL, Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police, as the new Chair of Trustees for Care of Police Survivors (COPS).
Sir John has been a long-standing supporter of the charity and brings with him extensive experience and a deep commitment to supporting the police family. In his new role, he will help guide the organisation’s strategic direction while continuing to champion the needs of families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.
Speaking about his appointment, Sir John said:
“I was delighted to be confirmed as the Chair of Trustees for COPS. I have supported the charity for many years, so it is a true honour to step into this role. As I said at last summer’s Service of Remembrance; COPS was ‘survivor initiated,’ it remains ‘survivor led,’ and it will always be ‘survivor-focused.’ I am also pleased to welcome Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes and T/Chief Superintendent Norman Haslett, whose experience and insight will be invaluable as we look to the future.”
Alongside Sir John’s appointment, COPS is also pleased to welcome two new members to its Board of Trustees.
Matt Jukes QPM, Deputy Commissioner at the Metropolitan Police Service, joins the Board bringing a wealth of operational leadership experience and a strong connection to the police survivor community.
Matt said:
“I am truly honoured to join the Board and play a part in supporting those who have lost a loved one whilst on duty. My involvement in the Police Unity Tour has shown me how vital and supportive this community is, and I look forward to serving it.”
Also joining the Board is Acting Chief Superintendent Norman Haslett of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). Norman will help strengthen representation from Northern Ireland within the charity’s leadership and bring valuable insight from across the wider UK policing family.
Norman said:
“I am delighted and honoured to represent the Northern Ireland policing family on the Board. COPS undertakes such amazing work for survivor families, and I am proud to be part of the team.”
