A police football team will be stepping out in a brand new kit – and wearing the COPS logo with pride.
Greater Manchester Police’s open age men’s football team recently unveiled their new kit – complete with COPS logo and the names of officers and staff from the force who have died while on duty.
The idea came from police officer and player-manager Tony Hanlon (pictured).
He said the kit act as a solemn reminder of friends and colleagues no longer here, as well as a way to raise awareness of COPS and the vital work it does.
“Everyone who puts on one of these shirts does it with pride,” he said.
“A lot of officers on the team not only recognise the names on the shirt but knew those people and worked with them.”
The new kit, paid for by sponsors which support the police, is also worn by Greater Manchester Police’s veteran team.
Tony said: “The actual idea came from a friend who works for the fire service, who did something similar.
“We choose to have the COPS logo as I’m aware of the charity – I’ve taken part in Light the Lakes so I know the amazing work the charity does. I understand the huge impact the charity has on the families of fallen officers.
“That’s why the COPS logo is on the shirt, along with the names of fallen officers – it’s just an amazing charity.
“It’s also a reminder that if the worst happens my family will be looked after.”
Both teams have several games coming up where they will be able to show off the new kit.
Tony added: “I’m really pleased with how the shirts, and the whole kit, came out. Hopefully we can get out there and play lots of games, and win, and raise awareness of COPS!”
