Light the Lakes 2022 promises “something different”

Following this year’s stunning Light the Lakes event in Cumbria details have been released for next year.

Light the Lakes 2022, which will mark 10 years, is set to be bigger and better than ever with the team behind it promising “something different”.

The annual fundraising event sees thousands of people climb one of the 214 Wainwright peaks and light a torch at 3am in honour of fallen colleagues

This year the COPS team, along with survivor and COPS National President Gill Marshall, survivors Lissie Harper, Samantha Dixon, and Jill Forster, the Stockport Police Cadets, and charity patron Penny Lancaster, took on Lingmoor fell.

For a few it was the first time taking on such a momentous, as well as demanding, challenge.

And, despite some adverse weather conditions and minor setbacks all exclaimed what a magical experience it was – and would be doing it again.

Light the Lakes Organiser Vinny Wagijani, a Detective Sergeant with Surrey Police said: “With Penny Lancaster supporting us this year and the exclusive article in Hello! magazine, it has helped raise the profile of the event, so much so, that when I released the 2022 peaks more than 70 per cent of the peaks had been taken on day one.

“Demand to the website was like that of a music festival, with participants eagerly waiting to refresh their webpage to grab their peak.

“We are always looking to do something new and 2022 will be no different, the team and I are working hard with our supporters and local partners to deliver something different.”

So far, 191 Mountain Peaks have been selected (out of 214) with 23 left to take.

There are also only five police forces nationally left to take part.

Vinny added: “My aspiration has always been to get all 214 peaks covered with all UK forces and I do hope colleagues who have taken part and not yet booked a peak from our outstanding forces take part.

“I reach out to Devon and Cornwall, Dyfed Powys, Gloucestershire, Gwent and Warwickshire Police to get your staff to book a peak so that I can reach that elusive 214 with all UK Forces.”

Light the Lakes 2022 takes place on 17 and 18 June.
