A fundraiser has set himself the mammoth task of completing 10 epic challenges in just nine months – despite never doing anything like this before.
James Cuzon, a serving officer with Police Scotland, is hoping to complete the challenges, mostly marathons and half marathons, in memory of his brother-in-law, and to raise money for COPS.
James said: “My brother-in-law PC Jason Gatherer passed away suddenly at only 36-years-old in 2012.
“Jason was initially stationed at Greenock Police Office in Scotland but included stints at the gang unit in Saracen Police Office, and community policing at Partick Police Office in Glasgow.
“He was a larger-than-life character.”
James added: “The idea of the challenges came from the fact it is 10 years of Jason’s passing and I was looking for something with say, 10 events.
“I wanted to climb Mount Kilimanjaro but felt that any finances would be better of going straight to the charity rather than funding a trip to raise funds. The money from all the races will go to COPS.”
The 10 challenges include the Great North Run, the Great Scottish Run, and the challenging off road Devils Foot Half Marathon in the Scottish Boarders.
James is also hoping to take part in the 2022 Athens Marathon to end his year of challenges.
He recently took part in his first marathon, the Alloa Half Marathon, along the foot of the Ochil Hills in Scotland.
James said: “It was a good race, but the heat did not help. I really enjoyed it though, and it was a great start to my 10 challenges in 2022.
“I’m quietly confident about the rest, but at the moment I’ve not been preparing as well as I should be! I am running a few miles per week but hopefully when the summer comes, I will be moving in to my full fitness programme and starting to ensure I get fitter in time for my Septembers races.”
